Medicines or meals? Desperate choices for most vulnerable Yemenis

The World Health Organization in Yemen

This project involved crafting a human-interest story about the health and the difficult decisions many households have to make, first developed in English before being translated into Arabic. Interviews with the local community were used to gather authentic narratives. Visual storytelling elements were planned alongside the text, with photography selected to capture the subjects' dignity and resilience.

The translation phase required more than linguistic accuracy—it needed cultural adaptation. Working with local dialects, idiom equivalents were carefully selected, while references were adjusted to ensure relatability to the targeted reader. Special attention was paid to maintaining the story's emotional tone in descriptions of hardship and moments of hope. This story was featured across different platforms of the organization.

The story can be found here: English and Arabic.
